Art became my Meditation
The Brisbane Floods and Finding Calm in the Chaos
In 2022, my family’s home was impacted by the floods. We lost nearly everything—our belongings, our sense of stability, and the emotional ties to the objects that meant so much to us. The months of moving between temporary homes felt never-ending, and the emotional toll was heavy. We were constantly uncertain about when we’d finally have a place to call our own again. I felt really lost and for the first time of me living in Australia, I really considered moving back to Germany. However, being over here for over 10 years, it felt impossible to follow through on such a big step and we decided to find our feet before making such a life-altering decision.
I found comfort in something I used to do a lot before I started Graphic Design and Motion Graphics: just plain drawing onto paper.
No reversing, deleting and enhancing. Just drawing. I really needed time away from my screen. Art became my way of holding onto joy, a way to meditate and find calm in the chaos and to be honest, to bring warmth and good memories back into our life and onto our bare walls. Something to remind me of the good times we had before our days were filled with the longest TO DO lists.
In 2024, I decided to enter the Brisbane Portrait Prize. Considering this was my first ever proper self-portrait, I am proud to say it ended up as a Finalist in the SaSalon des Refusés.
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
“Flood of emotions”
Finalist - Brisbane Portrait Prize
Salon des Refusés
This self-portrait is the first in a series depicting recovery and thriving post-disaster, during the isolation of COVID and my journey as a new mum. Inspired by Matisse and FridaKahlo, I visualise myself seated sadly on our cherished couch, water up to my ankles. Symbolic objects surround me: a lemon for perseverance, a banksia flower for resilience, my son's favourite book, a ball for joyful moments with our dog, escaped guppies from our pond, and a half-full glass of water with pencils that helped me cope emotionally.
A Moment That Sparked the Idea
After the floods, we took a trip to my home country, Germany. It was the first time I introduced my then two-year-old son to my family. One of the most memorable moments was sharing a quiet morning with my sister in a café. That simple moment of connection sparked something in me. I realised I wanted to create not just art about places, but art that captured the feelings tied to them—the emotions, the memories, and the people that make these spots meaningful.
This led me to start creating custom artwork that celebrates your special places, the ones that hold significant memories for you.
Turning Your Memories Into Art
I create Illustrations of the café where you met your partner, the park where you got engaged, or the backyard where you watched your little ones take their first steps.
It’s not just about drawing a place—it’s about bringing your memories to life and making them part of your everyday world.
Why Custom Art Matters
Our memories can fade over time, but art allows them to live on. A custom illustration can turn your favourite spots into a permanent reminder of the places that shaped your life. Each artwork I create isn’t just about the physical space—it’s about the emotions and experiences tied to that place, and the memories that matter most to you.
By turning your memories into art, you can keep those moments close, no matter where life takes you.

She proposed.
An unforgettable moment captured through collaboration with a friend of the couple—a surprise proposal illustration made with love, blurry photos, and a little creative magic.
A custom Illustration to celebrate the anniversary of one year living in their own apartment. What a successful surprise.
